Meet Byron
BYRON CARTER was born in Houston, Mississippi in 1962 as a 5th generation Mississippian. He is proud to be from a small town where things like being an Eagle Scout are still said with pride.
He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While in college he was an elected officer in Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He then went directly to Mississippi College School of Law graduating in 1987 with a Juris Doctorate. While in law school he interned for a semester with the Securities Division of Mississippi Secretary of State. Following law school Byron was selected to be a law clerk for Presiding Justice Armis Hawkins in the Mississippi State Supreme Court from 1987-1988.
He then moved to Alabama and practiced law there for 7 years. He returned to Mississippi in 1995 and practiced with Daniel Coker Horton & Bell. In 2003, he left that firm to manage the Mississippi offices of Rabalais, Unland & Lorio. Although he still handles matters for Rabalais Unland, in 2007, Byron opened his own office where he drafts Last Wills and handles workers’ compensation claims, divorces, child custody, estates, some criminal matters and appeals.
Byron was a Board Member of Kids’ Chance of America, Inc. for 10 years. Her served as Secretary and as Co-Chairman of the Membership Committee helping to establish the scholarship program in all 50 states. He currently is a Board Member of Kids’ Chance of Mississippi assisting with raising money and awarding almost $700,000 in scholarships.
He is a certified mediator for workers’ compensation claims by the Workers’ Compensation Section of The Mississippi Bar. He has spoken at many seminars regarding workers’ compensation and Kids’ Chance.
Byron is a member of The Mississippi Bar Association, Alabama Bar Association and Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before all Mississippi state and federal courts, all Alabama state and federal courts, the 5th and 11th Circuit Courts of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court.
Byron has been married to Tracy Mitchell Carter for over 22 years. They have raised 2 children, Will and Dallas.
